We are a London based start-up company disrupting the conventional static way of sitting. We have been diligently working since 2020 on developing a chair that not only is comfortable but actively attempts to correct a poor posture. Our team consists of individuals in a plethora of disciplines ranging from seating ergonomics, physiotherapists, chiropractors, CAD engineers, stress analysis simulation, industrial designers, electronic engineers to artificial intelligent (AI) software control. This exceptional team has worked in sectors such as the automotive and aerospace industries bringing to the world a truly unique product with dynamic adjustability.
So far we have developed two prototypes each having its intended purpose. The first prototype was to obtain market reception of the concept. It was given to a sample of people of various body shapes, weights and heights to trial along with a questionnaire. We used the feedback to determine whether there was any merit in continuing with the project. A commercially available office chair was used for this exercise and the seat pan and backrest were simply swapped with ours. The actuators were controlled via commercially available motor controllers along with an analog handheld control dial that we constructed in house.
The second prototype used the feedback from the first prototype to improve the concept. Less actuators and fewer cushions were used after a comprehensive analysis by a leading German ergonomics company. This prototype was intentionally heavy and it’s sole purpose was to prove all our own mechanisms including the electronics which will include the following.
- quiet and efficient field-oriented motor controller
- pressure sensing
- initial AI development
- control of the chair via a PC
Rigorous testing is currently underway and further prototypes are forecasted for 2023. Initial trials of the production intent chair will begin in 2024 followed by low volume production thereafter.
